Pointed post -- not one of my strengths, but something I'm working on. And certainly there is something here to pay attention to in terms of markets -- people still hunger for stories (that's one of the things that makes people people), but there's a segment of the population that wants them brief and focused and on their iPods and cell phones (or podcast).

For a long series of newspaper articles, I set a word count of 335, plus or minus 2. Almost all were pared to 337, some after much effort. The experiment proved to me that, although less is not necessarily more, it is almost always better due to the concentration required to include only meaningful words and to delete all the puffy words that surprisingly weakened rather than strengthened the message.

Flash fiction is a fun exercise that can be very, very educational. I've written a great number of them over the years. Several folks here were represented in the now legendary 365 Scary Stories - all under 750 words ... I wrote 17 and sold 7 to them....

And oddly (synchrohnicity?) I just started posting a project I've been doing for relaxation.. On a bulletin board far, far away I started writing a flash piece inspired by each of the little smiley Emoticons they have on their board. Anyway...for anyone interested...

The NecronomIcon is a growing project. Five are posted, over 30 have been written and will join them eventually over time...
