The Secret

By Sephera Giron

Have you heard the Secret?

It’s all the rage right now. Even Oprah did a show on it last week.

I knew about the secret long ago, and in fact, have used it.

But if I had truly used it wholeheartedly and with true faith, I might be in a different situation now.

However, I’m only human, like you.

What is this secret?

It’s an idea as old as time. It’s the Law of Attraction, the Power of Positive Thinking.

It’s about Visualization, about Faith, about God, about Energy.

It’s about how “where your attention goes, energy flows.”

I talk about the Secret at my “Cabin Fever” workshops.

I watched the Secret a couple of weeks ago and it reaffirmed to me what I already knew about myself and about the power of the universe.

For instance:

When I was a teenager, I would go into bookstores and imagine my books on the same shelves (i.e. horror) with Stephen King.

It took me twenty years, but I did achieve my goal.

I wanted to be published by Leisure Books since I was in my twenties.

I did it.

I wanted to be published by Cemetery Dance, have a review in Fangoria and some other things too, all came true.

Am I so great and powerful?

No.

What I did do, was set myself goals, and did whatever I could to reach them.

I didn’t hear NO.

I grew a fairly thick skin, though I can still be over sensitive.

I did my homework. I honed my craft. I believed in myself. I did the work. I pushed and pushed and didn’t give up.

Other things I wanted in my life that I set goals for as a teenager that have happened:

I wanted two children before I turned thirty. I had my sons at 25 and 29.

I wanted to live in Toronto. I accepted an offer to York University and have lived in and around Toronto for over twenty years.

I wanted to go to New York City (and have many times!)

I wanted to be “that astrology lady who does horoscopes.” And I am for Friendfinder.com and other sites.

I wanted to learn metaphysical skills and share them with others. I have, through my writing, and tarot reading, and now I am part of the Life Management Clinic team.

There are other things. Many things, about children, theatre, writing, traveling….There are lots of things I still want to do and lots of things that I have done.

Maybe I’m “lucky.” Maybe I’m tenacious. Maybe I’m “focused.”

Maybe I believe that life is not a dress rehearsal and why waste time whining away about wanting something when I can be living a life, DOING something.

If you live in the NOW and believe in Your Self, you will go far.

Everyone wants different things from life.

I have a “vision board.” I’ve always had boards, I even talk about them in my book, HOUSE MAGIC: THE GOOD WITCH’S GUIDE TO BRINGING GRACE TO YOUR SPACE.

The Secret tells you to use boards.

Boards keep you focused on your goals.

People think I’m “lucky” cos I don’t leave the house that much for work, and when I do, I make my own hours. It’s not luck. I’ve sacrificed a lot of financial stability to do this. I’ve also worked a lot of crappy jobs to realize that I don’t want to waste my life in crappy jobs. So I tried to create a reality that works for me and my family that brings in some money, but more importantly, brings in quality of life.

Speak positive. Say positive things. Be happy and grateful for what you have. If you do what you love, your life will be rich and rewarding.

Wishful thinking is positive thinking. And thinking is half the process. The other part is doing what you say you are going to do. Being your word.

Hard work and visualization will take you far in any career.

And that’s my two cents worth.

Sephera, sometimes in my classes I ask my students if they should believe in their dreams and pursue them. They invariably say yes. And then I ask, even if it seems like a folly, an absolutely impossible dream? And again they say yes, verily.

I smile and then say, that all my life I’ve had a dream of playing in the NBA as a Center and ask them if I should go after it. After all, I say, Shaq ain’t what he used to be. Maybe it’s time to make my move.

This time they’re not so sure. They don’t immediately chant, “Go for it, man!” Instead they stare at me, a 65-year-old man who is only 5′8″ tall. And then they laugh. A few, though, a precious few, aren’t so sure. Who knows, maybe dreams can become realities if you only have enough faith.

I liked your essay and am happy you’ve had the courage to live your dreams rather than someone else’s.

I thought you and your readers might be interested in this follow-up info about the Oprah show about “The Secret” last week…

Oprah will generally repeat topics when she receives a large volume of responses to any particular show. So if we want to see more Law of Attraction on Oprah (which would be an amazingly positive thing for the planet), then we need to post on her message board to let her know WE WANT MORE! Here’s the link to Oprah’s message board about “The Secret”:

Also, the free International Law of Attraction Teleconferences that were held last week were a big hit, so there will be two more free teleconferences this week. The link for those is http://lawofattractionteleconference.com.

I think it’s safe to say that “The Secret” is out!

Astrology is the ancient practice and study of the stars and planets. Its history goes back to Babylonian times. Astrology is not the same as astronomy. Astronomy studies only the science of the planets, stars and universe.
